I've been waiting forever to get my hands on this baby and play with Project Tango! It was supposed to come out in August last year,  then it got pushed back and delayed until November and today I FINALLLLY got the call from the Lenovo store in Megamall saying they had it in stock! So I rushed over and quickly snapped it up (apparently they only got 5 units,  very limited stock and I really wanted the gold one)!!

For those who don't know Project Tango is "an augmented reality platform developed and authored by Google".  Which means that it can do really cool stuff like markerless Augmented Reality - i.e. objects and information overlaid onto the real world. So if you're playing an augmented reality zombie killing game,  Tango can realistically render 3D zombies around you! It can also do alot of other cool stuff like measure 3D physical spaces,   recognise a space it has previously been in (area learning)  and decorate your house with 3D furniture.

Currently most phones can do marker based AR- i.e. Yoy have some kind of QR code or barcode and it scans it,  detects the unique features on the image and renders 3D models on your camera on top of that.

Tango can do markerless AR because of the hardware setup.  In order to do this,  my phone has an infrared laser,  fisheye lens as well as a normal lens.  It s also HUGE almost tablet sized! Lenovo's phone is the first commercially available Tango device.

You can see some demos of what this phone can do below as well as some of the new gaming experiences it enables! I can't wait to start programming on it!
